A solderless breadboard is a useful tool for prototyping circuits. It has spring sockets to grip onto components and jumper wires. The diagram above shows the internal connections of a breadboard. The outer power rails are connected vertical. The internal portion is connected together horizontally; however, the horizontal rows do not connect across the gap. The gap is designed to fit most dual in-line package (DIP) integrated circuit parts.
