Arduino Lab 0: Software Setup

You will be setting up Arduino Create and then running your first program on the Arduino. I have provided the instructions below in case you are interested in setting it up on your own compute. First, complete the Arduino Create Installation for your operating system. Then, complete the Arduino Create Setup instructions to test your setup. You will need your Arduino and your programming cable (USB-A to USB-B). Make sure you have a USB-A port on your computer or a dongle to convert it.

Arduino Programming Best Practice:

After you are done with one project but before you start wiring up your next project, you should ALWAYS erase the program on your Arduino. This will prevent you from damaging components or your Arduino.

Consider the following scenario:

• Say you were outputting voltage on pin 2 for a previous project.
• Now you want to connect a device on pin 2 as an input.
• If you connect this new device while running the old program, it will likely damage the device or your Arduino.

Steps to erase:

• Click "New Sketch" button to open a new, blank sketch.
• Upload the blank sketch to your board.
• You are now safe to start connecting things to your Arduino!
