Respect - Make sure everyone's ideas and contributions are equally heard and valued. You need a diversity of thought to produce the best solution.
Quantity over quality - Do not attempt to filter out ideas as you are brainstorming. You will refine them later. Just keep the ideas flowing and make sure you document every single idea.
“Yes and …” - There are no bad ideas when brainstorming and there is no room for negativity. Use "yes and..." to continue to build off your peers and encourage wild ideas. One of those wild ideas could be the innovative solution for which you've been searching.
One conversation at a time. - Make sure you exhaust one train of thought before you advance to the next. You don't want to get sidetracked and forget an idea you had. Leave no stone unturned. Once they've all been overturned, move on to the next conversation.
Feeling Stuck? - Try restating or reframing the problem. Turn the problem upside-down. Try anti-problem solving or coming up with wrong answers. Or if it's been awhile, take a break! Banging your head repeatedly against a wall is never going to inspire creativity. Take a break and come back to it another day. Sometimes, your subconscious will do the work for you even when you're not thinking about it.
